DATES:

CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
    1. UNIX and Linux Concepts
      • Create a file using the concatenate and redirect commands.
      • Move and rename files provided by the instructor.
      • Create, use, and delete directories.
    2. UNIX Regular Expressions
      • Use sed and grep utilities to code regular expressions.
    3. grep Command
      • Create grep scripts; run the grep scripts in both the foreground and background.
    4. attributes of a UNIX Filter
      • Count the number of files that start with the letter 'a'.
      • Ascertain whether the user 'dave' is logged on.
      • Print the ten most popular words in the file 'mysite.html':
    5. Common UNIX Filters
      • Encrypt and decrypt a file with the tr command.
      • Compare the lines which are common to the sorted files file1 and file2.
      • Find all the files that have been created in the last two weeks.
    6. Shell Basics
      • Create shell scripts that run the supplied program for several parameter sets.
      • These scripts ensure that the results of a program run with a specific parameter set with names that correspond to the last parameter in the parameter set.
    7. Creating Working with Tools
      • Code a script which uses several utilities to build a file manipulation tool.
    8. awk as a Flexible Search Tool
      • Use the escape sequence for searching records in a file.
      • Print every line that has at least one field.
      • Print the total number of bytes used by files.
      • Print the total number of kilobytes used by files.
    9. Creating Long awk Scripts
      • Code an awk script called listsh which will print out the user ID and the name of the login shell for each user with an account on the system.
      • The OFS will be two tab characters.
    10. Advanced awk Capabilities
      • A simple CSV file is compromised of fields separated by commas; the commas can not appear anywhere else in the file.
      • CSV files can be parsed using FS=’,’.
      • Read the CSV file provided by the instructor.
      • Store the content into an array.
      • Sort the array and write the array to a file.
