1. What is Linux/UNIX
   • Become knowledgeable with the concepts and terminology of Linux/UNIX.
2. Basics
   • Acquire proficiency in entering commands.
   • 1- Log on to the system. 2- Enter basic commands. 3- Perform command editing. 4- Access the help information.
3. File System Concepts
   • Navigate through the directories and return to the home directory.
   • Using Linux/UNIX directory commands, create and access directories.
   • Execute two techniques for returning to the home directory.
4. Commands
   • Acquire proficiency with commands that manipulate files.
   • 1- Run a command to sort a file. 2- Translate characters into all upper case. 3- Search for a string in a file. 4- Display the number of lines in a file.
5. vi Editor
   • Become proficient with the vi editor.
   • 1- Edit a new and an existing file. 2- Change the content. 3. Move around the file. 4- Search and replace strings. 5- Recover a lost file. 6- Move lines.
6. File Permissions
   • Acquire proficiency in working with file permissions.
   • 1- Ascertain the file permissions for a file or directory. 2- Change the file permissions. 3- Change the umask. 4- Change ownership.
7. Processes
   • Become familiar with the architecture and associated functionality with processes in the UNIX operating system.
   • List current processes and determine the resources that are being used for each process.
   • Execute a background process, check its status, and terminate the process.
8. C Shell Specifics
   • Become familiar with the C shell environment.
   • Start a C shell environment: 1- Create an alias. 2- Change the start-up profile. 3- Use the file name completion feature.
9. Korn Shell Features
   • Become familiar with the korn shell environment.
   • 1- List the command history. 2- Run the previous command. 3- Run the 5th previous command. 4- Change the start-up profile. 5- Use the file name completion feature.
10. UNIX Environment
    • Learn how to use pipes and redirection; recognize their value and purpose.
    • Redirect output from several utilities to a file: 1- Append data to a file. 2- Code commands to a file and redirect them into a command. 3- Send error messages to a separate file.
11. Shell Variables
    • Learn how to use shell variables; recognize their value and purpose.
    • Set and list the shell variable for path, logname, PS1, term and others.
12. Configuration Files
    • Learn to create configuration files and understand their individual functions.
    • Code and test configurations file for Bourne/Korn profiles, C profiles, and vi configuration files.
13. Network Commands
    • Upload and download a file using FTP.
    • Using FTP, upload a series of files to a workstation and download files to the server.
