DATES:

CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
    1. Introduction and Overview
      • List the advantages of a VSAM dataset.
      • Compare the features of VSAM with a relational database.
    2. Access Method Services
      • Code IDCAMS JCL and control cards.
      • Use IDCAMS to create, load, and print a VSAM KSDS.
      • Display all the attributes of the dataset.
    3. VSAM Datasets
      • Dump a KSDS index and review the relevant control information.
    4. Application Programming
      • Process a KSDS in a host language.
      • Code a program to open a VSAM dataset, sequentially read the dataset and check for errors.
      • Code a program to open a VSAM dataset, randomly read the dataset and check for errors.
    5. Alternate Indexes and Paths
      • Process an AIX in a host language.
      • Code a program that accesses a KSDS using the primary key and an alternate key.
    6. New VSAM Features
      • Apply backup procedures for a single VSAM dataset.
      • Use REPRO to perform a backup.
      • Given a program and its associated JCL, determine the I/O usage and minimize the number of EXCPs required for processing.
