CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
    1. Program Components
      • Become familiar with the components of mainframe systems.
      • Identify mainframe components with their functionality.
      • Recognize the differences among languages: Java, COBOL, Assembler, and REXX.
      • Presented with different scenarios, determine the language which would be most appropriate for application development.
    2. Memory, Storage, and Channels
      • Learn hexadecimal arithmetic.
      • Perform the calculations and determine the values in hexadecimal.
    3. Job, Task, and Data Management
      • Become familiar with the steps which comprise CPU processing.
      • Understand the processing steps of the CPU and the CPU interaction with internal memory.
      • Become familiar with the capabilities and functionality of the z/OS operating system.
    4. TSO and VTAM
      • Use libraries, datasets, and MSL: Member Selection List.
      • Use the BROWSE and MSL primary commands.
      • Given a dataset, browse/edit the dataset and use the hexadecimal, COLS, FIND, LOCATE, and scrolling commands.
      • List all the members in a PDS.
      • Perform a locate operation and select the member.
    5. Methods of Organization
      • The attributes of QSAM, BPAM, and VSAM.
      • Given several scenarios, determine which access method will be used.
    6. Structured Programming
      • Appreciate the life cycle of a system.
      • Given a specific task to be performed, ascertain its state in the life cycle.
      • Develop sequence, selection, and repetition structures for code snippets within a program.
    7. Programming Cycle
      • Use a top-down approach to deconstruct a client-relationship system to its compositional subsystems.
