Overview
Use the File Manager to display, edit, update, create, copy, compare, print, and erase data.
Examine how data can be manipulated as logical units, accessed by the dataset name.
Examine how data can be manipulated as physical units, accessed at each physical disk or tape location.
Analyze how an interactive interface can be used to view data in both Table and Single record formats.
Starting File Manager
Start and exit File Manager.
Check the File Manager version.
Invoke File Manager panels from outside File Manager.
Viewing Datasets
The File Manager editor provides the capability to edit data as logical records, in an unformatted or formatted state; records that are structured into fields are suitable for editing in a formatted state using a template.
Start an editor session without using templates.
Start an editor session with a template.
Manipulate the view of the data.
Shared Files
Utilize File Manager record integrity checking.
Refresh the content of a record.
Template: Creation and Editing
Examine and analyze templates: 1- Create and edit a copybook template and a dynamic template. 2- Create a copybook template with the Template Workbench. 3- Create a template from a model template. 4- Create a dynamic template.
Filtering Records with Templates
Filter a record display using templates.
Select records with templates.
Define criteria expressions.
Changing Records in Datasets
Create, replace, and add data using existing data.
Create a new member and dataset using data from an edit session.
Add data to a dataset using data from an edit session.
Managing Datasets
Find and change data in multiple PDS members.
Refine the list of selected members.
Specify where results are stored.
Tape Specific Functions
Process tapes with data-check errors.
Use Tape Browse to browse physical records on a tape.
Analyze how Tape Data Copy provides the capability to: 1- Duplicate a tape. 2- Copy tape data to another storage device. 3- Change the record organization, record format, and block size. 4- Recover data from a defective tape. 5- Translate between ASCII and EBCDIC formats.
Disk/VSAM Data Functions
Use Disk Browse to change the top record of the display by overtyping the cylinder, head, and record numbers displayed in the top left of the panel.
Overtype the column number, to reposition the data.
Use Disk Track Edit to create, modify, and manipulate records on a disk track.
